چکیده

This work presents the current status of the Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF) vegetation products and explores some advantages and potential applications. The LSA SAF SEVIRI vegetation products include the fractional vegetation cover (FVC), the leaf area index (LAI) and the fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (FAPAR). Multiple validation techniques have been performed to develop uncertainty information on vegetation products. The products are spatially and temporally consistent and present practically no missing data except for areas which are usually covered by snow. Large uncertainties are generally found in areas where the BRDF reliability is poor (e.g., wintertime at northern Europe). The observed deviations between LSA SAF and equivalent satellite products are in the order of 0.10-0.15 for FVC, 0.5-0.8 for LAI and about 0.1 for FAPAR. Similar or slightly higher deviations are often found between the respective products. The spatial coverage, temporal continuity and stability of the LSA SAF products is complementary of polar orbit based products, which in turn provide a finer spatial resolution. Mayor potential of SEVIRI products include automatic reconstruction of single year, and multi-year composite vegetation phenologies and delivery of parameters dedicated to near real-time monitoring of annual cycles (e.g. an early estimate of the season production).

Evaluation of an Operational Leaf Area Index Retrieval Approach Using Vegetation and Modis Data

An operational method has been proposed to estimate the leaf area index (LAI) from satellite imagery in the framework of EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF). This study evaluates the performance of the LSA SAF LAI retrieval algorithm when prototyped to VEGETATION/CYCLOPES and MODIS reflectances over Europe for the 2000-2003 period. The results indicate tha...

Validation of the Lsa Saf Fvc and Lai Prototype Algorithm with Polder/adeos Data over Western Europe

The SAF on Land Surface Analysis (LSA SAF) is aimed to produce operationally land surface products taking full advantage of the new EUMETSAT meteorological satellites by the end of its Initial Operational phase (2005-2007). Our main concern in LSA SAF is to develop the algorithm for retrieving Leaf Area Index (LAI) and Fraction of Vegetation Cover (FVC), as well as to validate the derived produ...

Status and potential of herbal applications in aquaculture: A review

Disease are recognized as one of the major constraint to sustainable animal production which can cause significant economic loss especially in aquaculture. Various chemotherapeutic agents have been traditionally used in the treatment and prevention of diseases in farmed fish but they are not recommended since improper and continuous use of antibiotics may lead to potential development of antibi...

Improved retrieval of direct and diffuse downwelling surface shortwave flux in cloudless atmosphere using dynamic estimates of aerosol content and type: application to the LSA-SAF project

Downwelling surface shortwave flux (DSSF) is a key parameter to addressing many climate, meteorological, and solar energy issues. Under clear sky conditions, DSSF is particularly sensitive to the variability both in time and space of the aerosol load and chemical composition. Hitherto, this dependence has not been properly addressed by the Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis...
